Ever wondered where does the $$$ in your bank comes from?

Finally, long time since got a bit of time to blog....
Ever wondered if the money in your bank is just digits? Those digits that you slogged for with your time, sweat and sometimes "blood", where do they come from?

This is just my personal reflection from the recent subprime collaspe in US and the Northern Rock bank crisis in England where there was a run on the bank. Found a 3-part video that is interesting, it enabled me to make the connection to monetary theory in Economics lessons in JC. Read no further, here is the 3 part video...

I am bored and I have decided to do something to entertain myself. A thousand apologies if I happened to incur any wrath. No animals were hurt in the process of the following pictures.

Movie Reflections - "Groundhog Day"

Watched this movie on HBO this afternoon, quite thought provoking, thats why I writing this.....
This movie tells a simple story about a man who is stuck in the time of “today”. He has no tomorrow or yesterday, he relives the same everyday, the same routine takes place every day, right at the point he wakes up at 6.00am. After 3 or so days, he gets sick of it and starts lamenting and tries all sorts of ways to end it, including ending his own life!, but all to no avail, he continues to relieve the same day ever day. Finally he starts to notice the finer things that take place every day, he starts to take note and take care of the people around him who greet him everyday as per everyday. He starts learning new things, gain new knowledge to help people, and of course live differently and definitely more fulfilling…

Many of us live lives very much like Mill Murrays in the movie, we wake up pretty much the same time, brush our teeth, take our breakfast, join in the squeeze at the rush hour traffic, get stuck in office trying to clear emails and paperwork, meet deadlines, see irritating people, solve other people’s problems, and the list goes on and on…. But always forgetting to appreciate the simple but yet significant things that are going on as we rush.
Many a times, we wish to get out such routines, we want to change our lives, just like him trying to end it (even ending his own life), but maybe if we try to live everyday differently and better, even if it were the same routine every day, life may be just as fulfilling.

Milestones - Cameron Trip!

Here are the photos from our Cameron trip, i think we stayed at Strawberry Park. Great memories, just before we took over the helm of the DHSSB in Sec 4

This is where we climbed endlessly up the hill to reach the hilltop near the place where they produced strawberries. Wonderful scenery and super clean air! Have the urge to go back there for a breather of the fresh air again.

Think we took this at the last day of the trip.

Notice we took this photo at the Clock

Milestones - Band Camp!

This is the DHSSB logo created at night using candles. Nice!

A normal flag raising ceremony every morning during Band Camp, never did anyone realise what happens before that! Area Cleaning!!! The most dreaded activity, next to eating lunch, where we have to eat every single lump of rice ALao cooked!
Here we are trying to scoop up every single sand on the ground and making the ground dry. Remember the instance where siumei rolled on the parade square to dry it?!

See the DI walking around with the classic file in hand?

dangui - sydney dec 2005

This was last year in Sydney. We loved the views.. but it's actually just another city like Singapore. One good thing that's very different was the fact that people could live by the river. They could have their own yacht by their home. Weather was too hot though, and the big houseflies were absolutely disgusting!!!! hahah..

Milestones - Band of Brothers

This is the Band of Brothers Photo that I have been searching for some time.

Think this is right after the commissioning of our "new" DHS campus at Tanjong Rhu!

Check out how we look then and compare with those now!

Milestone - Our First Concerts!

This is probably RHYTHM VIII at the Victoria Concert hall, still remember the conductor: Mr Tan!

Our Very FIRST public concert at Singapore Concert Hall (think should be correct) when we are in Secondary School. I think the conductor is the controversial Ms Tan (is it correct huh the surname?)
Remember the pieces we played?
Hahah, post your answers in the chat box! There is a prize for your correct answer ! (just kidding)

The stage band with Tianquan (yup, btw the way, where did this guy disappear into, last heard he was in VJC) playing solo... if I am not wrong but somehow could not fund him in the photo, probably this is our own rehearsal

"Milestones - Days in DHS (and under Mr Kew)"

Its about 14 hears since 1993 that we had been acquainted. That's like a good 1.4 decades (got so long?!)... Lets look back from Sec Sch to JC to Army (for the guys...) then to Uni to work then to most of us getting married ... Wow !, thats a lot of milestones that we had went thru.

Lets share all these experiences and memories. Hence I would like to start this series of photos, postings and I am theming it "Milestones". Hmm, where shall we start?, from the day we knew each other, I presume. Hope to be able to compile an album of photos and commentary from all in this blogsite.

This week lets call it "Milestones - Days in DHS (and under Mr Kew)" Hope it does not sound too corny... so sit back and hold on as I will be uploading the first instalment to this. Do contribute if you have anything.

ZOO!

Hee. I'm too poor to go Europe and the likes hence I've resigned myself to revisit Singapore places.

Thus *snare drum roll + cymbal clash*, after a 10 yr hiatus. I've finally returned to the Zoo haha. The Singapore Zoo, like all Singapore things, has gotten more expensive...

All in all, it's a good place to go once every 10 years I guess =p
